Volunteer with SECORCares!
If you’re looking for a place to make a difference in your community, SECORCares is that place! There are so many different volunteer opportunities for any and everyone to get involved. Here are just a few.
The Heart of SECOR
Volunteers are the heart and soul of SECOR, without them, we couldn't serve as many guests as we do. They keep the wheels turning, the warehouse organized and the market fresh, and they bring hope and a smile to our guests.
There are a variety of opportunities for our volunteers, including:
Restock items in our free food market
Assist guests with shopping
Help unload trucks with donations
Organize food donations in the warehouse
Pack, load, and drive Food for Thought bags for schools
Drive our truck to collect donations from Costco, Sprouts, Target, Natural Grocers, etc.
Pick-up donations from local stores and restaurants as needed
Drive the Mobile Market
Special Events (as needed)
Volunteers donate 2-4 hours per shift, on their chosen day(s) of the week. We are happy to work with you to accommodate your schedule to the best of our ability.
Interested in Joining the Fun?
The first step is to join us for one of our tours of SECOR. Here you'll learn more about SECOR's work and about the real need in our communities as a result of Suburban Poverty. We'll also walk through the free food market and warehouse, and share the process our guests experience when they visit. It's easy, and fun and it will help you decide how you would like to spend your time as a volunteer. Please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Monica here to schedule a tour and start volunteering with us.
Eligibility Requirements:
Volunteers must be 15 years old or older to participate without adult supervision. Children 8 – 14 years old may volunteer only if they are accompanied by a supervising adult, e.g. parent/guardian, mentor, or group leader.
Attend a tour.
Next Steps to Volunteering:
After attending a tour, sign up for your first shift. You will be paired with a seasoned volunteer who will "show you the ropes" and work with you until you feel comfortable. Since our volunteers work varying days, there will always be seasoned volunteers around to "shadow", guide you, and answer any questions.
High School Community Hours
High School Students
SECOR is an eligible location for earning your volunteer community hours for graduation. You must bring your hour tracking sheet from your school or sport.
Please reach out to Monica for more information.
Groups and Organizations
Groups and Organizations
SECORCares welcomes groups and organizations of all kinds - corporate groups, service organizations, school groups, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troupes, church groups, business organizations, and more! As with individual volunteers, we will share our story, take you on a tour, then get you started on your volunteer time. It's a great team-building event, as well as an opportunity to give back to your community. Be a part of something bigger with SECOR!
Our group sessions typically run between 90 minutes – 2 hours and serve in our warehouse. We begin with a short presentation/tour so we can share our vision with those who are volunteering. From there we move into the warehouse for the day's task. Our current protocols include:
Group sizes of 8 or less.
Ages 8 and over; groups of minors need to have a 1 adult to 6 student ratio.
Closed-toe shoes are required.
We ask anyone feeling ill to stay home.
We are currently not able to support group volunteering sessions outside of our normal business hours, so unfortunately that means no evening groups. Additionally, our Saturday opportunities fill very quickly and typically book months in advance. SECOR is closed Sundays.
If you would like to bring your group or organization on a tour, or to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Monica.
Thank you, Food for Thought Team, for your time and support of those in need. We appreciate you!
